Even as diplomatic tensions between India and Canada remain unresolved in the aftermath of the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18th in Surrey, British Columbia, a series of demonstrations and protests by Khalistan supporters have flared up outside the Indian High Commission in London, United Kingdom.
This latest protest in London follows closely on the heels of an incident where Khalistani extremists thwarted a planned visit by Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami to the United Kingdom. The Indian High Commission in London has seen a heightened presence of British security forces to manage the demonstrators, who have been confined to an area opposite the High Commission.

Additionally, a Sikh temple (gurdwara) in Scotland, which had been at the center of the disruption during the visit by Indian diplomats, has strongly condemned the “disorderly behavior” and stated that local police are currently investigating the matter. These events are unfolding amidst an ongoing diplomatic standoff between India and Canada regarding the issue of pro-Khalistan extremism. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that authorities are actively pursuing credible allegations related to the Indian government’s involvement in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was designated as a terrorist. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India has vehemently rejected these allegations, deeming them “absurd and motivated.”
The persistence of pro-Khalistan protests and the diplomatic tensions surrounding the issue continue to pose challenges for both India and Canada as they navigate this complex and sensitive matter.
