Putin appoints new commander to lead Russia Ukraine War

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed the new top commander of the Russian army in the war with Ukraine. Putin has entrusted the war in Ukraine to Valery Gerasimov. Valery Gerasimov is currently posted as the Chief of the General Staff in the Russian Armed Forces. Now Valery Gerasimov will be the head of the special military operation of the Russian army in Ukraine. At the same time, removing Commander Sergei Surovikin from the post of chief, Valery Gerasimo has been made deputy.

The Defense Ministry of Russia has announced this on Wednesday. On behalf of the Russian Defense Ministry, it was said that Valery Gerasimov has been appointed as the commander of the ‘Joint Grouping of Troops’. At the same time, Sergei Surovikin, the current commander of the Russian army in Ukraine, has been appointed as Valery Gerasimov’s deputy.

Sergei Surovikin, one of the most ruthless officers of the Russian Army, was appointed commander of the Russian Army’s special operations in Ukraine in October last year. At the time when Surovikin was deployed, the Ukrainian army had shocked the Russian army several times.

Surovikin was deployed by President Putin only to make the strategy of the Russian army more aggressive in Ukraine. However, Putin was not satisfied with Surovikin’s strategy and now it has been announced to remove him from the post within three months. Along with Valery Gerasimov, Surovikin will also work with two other Russian army generals, namely Oleg Salyukov and Alexey Kim.

Surovikin changed the strategy as soon as he became the commander

Two days after the deployment of Surovikin, there was a change in the strategy of the Russian army in the war. The Russian army started continuous drone and missile attacks in Ukraine, due to which there was a lot of destruction in many areas of Ukraine and large buildings were found in the ground. Because of this, common citizens also had to face crises like electricity and water.

A month after Surovikin’s appointment, Russian forces pulled out of Kherson, a major city in southern Ukraine. Kherson was the only regional capital in Ukraine that was completely occupied by the Russian army.
