Russia President Vladimir Putin in his first comments since the events of Saturday’s aborted mutiny claimed that he let Wagner go on as long as they did in an attempt to avoid bloodshed. Tensions arose when Putin made the televised addressed where he called mutiny a serious threat to Russia and promised dire consequences for the rebels. Meanwhile Wagner’s leader Yevgeny Prigozhin released a 11 minute long video on telegram where he maintained that Wagner’s actions were never intended to overthrow the government.
“From the very beginning of the events, steps were taken on my direct instruction to avoid serious bloodshed,” Putin said on Monday. The whereabouts of Prigozhin remain unknown and no significant details about his agreement with Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko and Russian authorities were discussed in the video.
Time was needed to abate serious ramifications
Putin further announced that he gave Wagner time to rethink their actions and a chance to avoid making a bigger mistake. “Time was needed, among other things, to give those who had made a mistake a chance to come to their senses, to realize that their actions were firmly rejected by society, and that the adventure in which they had been involved had tragic and destructive consequences for Russia and for our state.” Putin said. He also added that Wagner forces would be allowed to relocate to Belarus and option to enter into contract with Russian forces will also be open to them. He made no direct mention of Prigozhin and held a meeting with the heads of Russian security services which included Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
One of Prigozhin’s principal demands of the uprising was ouster of defense minister from his position.

West had nothing to do with it
On Monday, POTUS Joe Biden referred to the mutiny as “part of a struggle within the Russian system”. “We made it clear that we were not involved. We had nothing to do with it,” Biden further added .He also that is essential that Putin should not get a reason to blame it on West or NATO after discussion with his key allies. White House national security spokesperson John Kirby maintained that U.S. policy did not seek regime change in Russia.
Meanwhile on Monday, Ukrainian forces made a advance in all sectors. President Zelensky said “It is a happy day,” and “May I wish our boys more such days.” Kyiv will attempt to make headways in their counteroffensive with relative instability in Russian ranks. Ukraine also announced recapture of village of Rivnopli adding that it is 9th village they have retaken since their counteroffensive began.
