Queen Elizabeth Funeral: In order to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, President Droupadi Murmu will go to London, United Kingdom, from September 17 to 19, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Wednesday. President Murmu will send her condolences to the British Monarch with the longest reign.
On September 8th, the Queen passed away at the age of 96 in Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands.
Nearly 500 dignitaries will be among the approximately 2,000 mourners attending the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey. The service will begin on September 19 at 3:30 PM (India time).
Ministry Of External Affairs’ Statement Regarding India-UK relations
In its statement, MEA said that India-UK relations have “evolved, flourished, and strengthened immensely” over Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign. As the head of the Commonwealth, she had a significant impact on the welfare of millions of people worldwide.
On September 12, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar paid a visit to the British High Commission to express India’s condolences. Sunday was also marked as a day of national grief.
Crowds are anticipated to swarm Westminster Hall to see the queen’s casket.
From Wednesday until her funeral on Monday, hundreds of thousands of people are anticipated to gather at London’s historic Westminster Hall to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II.
The closed casket will be positioned on a catafalque, or raised platform, in the middle of Westminster Hall, with royal guards stationed there 24 hours a day. The Imperial State Crown the queen wore on her 1953 coronation will be among the royal regalia placed on the coffin, which will also be draped in a royal flag.

The sovereign, queen consorts, and occasionally the prime minister are the only people allowed to lie in state in the U.K. There were several royals who laid in state at Westminster Hall, including Queen Mary, King George VI, and King George V. The only British prime minister to participate in a lying-in-state ceremony during the 20th century was Winston Churchill.
The Queen Mother, Elizabeth’s mother, was the last person to lie in state in Britain. When she passed away in 2002, nearly 200,000 people paid their tributes over the course of three days.
