Russia-Ukraine War: G7 Cautions Russia of Grave Repercussions. Zelenskyy Denies Talks with Putin

Russia-Ukraine War: Day after Russia launched missiles into Ukrainian cities, the G7 countries virtually gathered to “hold Putin accountable” for his country’s most recent actions, which the UN condemned as war crimes.

On Tuesday, the G7 leaders strongly denounced the Russian missile attacks and vowed to supply Ukraine’s urgent needs for military hardware. In a joint statement, they declared their commitment to helping Ukraine with its winter preparation requirements.

In order to deter Russia, President Zelenskyy has urged the G7 countries to provide Ukraine with air defence capability. Since the start of the conflict in February, the West has been providing Ukraine with weapons and ammunition.

The major story developments are listed below.

1) Volodymyr Zelenskyy once more ruled out meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G7 summit and demanded for strong additional sanctions against Moscow. Since the day Russia grabbed 15% of Ukraine and warned the world it would use nuclear weapons, the possibilities of ending the Russia-Ukraine war through negotiations seem to have diminished.
2) The G7 nations strongly committed to stick by Kyiv for “as long as it takes” and denounced Russia’s missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. In addition, the G7 leaders cautioned that Putin using nuclear weapons would have “grave consequences.”

3) The Russian strikes’ timing and placement were deemed “shocking” by the UN, which also stated that attacking civilians directly constitutes a war crime.

“It is startling that the strikes occurred where they did and at a time when people were travelling to work and dropping off children at school. A war crime is committed when attacks are purposefully directed against civilian targets, or targets that are not military targets “On Tuesday, a spokesman for the UN human rights office said.

4) According to Ukraine, a Russian airstrike that damaged infrastructure and cut off power and gas resulted in 19 fatalities and over 100 injuries. In eight different areas, at least 12 energy facilities suffered damage.

5) In towns that the Ukrainian army has retaken, the situation is significantly worse. In a settlement in the Donetsk area, bodies of 55 individuals, including a one-year-old baby, were exhumed from a mass grave. Around 110 graves were discovered by authorities in a cemetery in Lyman town. Russia has been accused by Ukraine of torturing and killing innocent civilians, a charge that Moscow has consistently refuted from the start of the conflict.
6) Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, has reaffirmed that missile attacks were reprisal for an attack on a vital bridge connecting Russia to the annexed Crimea, which he attributed to Ukraine.

7) US President Joe Biden referred to Vladimir Putin as a typically logical actor who gravely underestimated Russia’s chances of annexing Ukraine.

As the seven-month conflict escalated as a result of Moscow attacking civilian targets throughout its neighbour, Biden told CNN, “I think he is a sensible actor who has substantially miscalculated.”
8) India has also voiced alarm over the situation in Ukraine escalating, particularly the targeting of infrastructure and the killing of civilians.

We once again stress that no one has any interest in the hostilities escalating. We demand that hostilities end right away and that the route of diplomacy and communication be quickly re-established. In reaction to Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, the external ministry has stated that India is prepared to support all such de-escalation initiatives.

10) Last week, Vladimir Putin formally annexed Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Donetsk into the Russian Federation by signing accession treaties. Putin made a resounding declaration that they will protect their territory at the ceremony held in Moscow.
