Russia-Ukraine War: The leaders of the West are alarmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s mention of the Japanese atomic blasts in a chat with French President Emmanuel Macron, despite Russia’s continued promises that it will withdraw from the western bank of the Dnipro river in Kherson.
According to the Daily Mail, “Putin expressed the view that the bombings – which triggered the Japanese surrender and the end of the Second World War – demonstrated that ‘you don’t need to attack the major cities in order to win.”
Western political leaders have expressed concern over Putin’s potential decision to deploy a tactical nuclear weapon to put an end to the current conflict in Ukraine.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February of this year, there has been a looming threat of nuclear war. It will be a long winter for the citizens of the war-torn country as military attacks in Ukraine escalate and the threat of nuclear war remains ever-present.

Russia’s Position
Russia has charged Ukraine with preparing a radioactive bomb to be deployed in the Russian-occupied town of Kherson. Kyiv has denied the assertion, with the country’s foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, calling it ludicrous and dangerous. “Russians frequently accuse others of what they intend themselves,” he continued.
A “dirty bomb” is intended to spread radioactive contamination over a large region, endangering nearby humans. There is no nuclear explosion in it.
While threatening an attack by Ukraine using a “dirty bomb,” the Kremlin has also said that if Kyiv uses a “dirty bomb,” it might be forced to deploy a tactical nuclear weapon.

Japan’s Nuclear Bombing
The United States of America unleashed their first atomic bomb on Japan’s Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The US’s next target was Japan’s Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, which was three days later.
‘Little Boy’ and ‘Fat Man’ were the nicknames given to the first and second atomic bombs, respectively. The only country to employ atomic weapons in a war was the United States. Their deployment of the bomb greatly contributed to the end of World War II, the beginning of the Cold War, and the Arms Race.
