Russia-Ukraine War: The head of Wagner forces Yevgeny Prigozhin vowed to bring down Russia’s top military leadership after he accused them of launching airstrikes on his mercenary group. Wagner had claimed control over Russian cities of Rostov and Voronezh, and had said that they faced little resistance from advancing national Guard. Earlier in the day Prigozhin announced on Telegram that his group had taken control of Russian Military Headquarters in city of Rostov. Prigozhin said in a video “We are inside the (military) headquarters. It is 7:30 a.m. Military sites in Rostov, including an airport, are under control.” He also mentioned aircraft fighting against Ukraine were leaving as normal and they control airport “so that the attack aviation would not strike us, but strike Ukrainians.” he added.
Putin vows to punish ‘traitors’
Addressing his nation on live television Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he will do “everything to protect the country” and said that ‘decisive action’ will be taken to normalize situation in country’s southeast. Vladimir Putin claims Prigozhin has ‘betrayed’ the nation for ‘personal ambition’ and claimed Wagner’s ‘march of justice’ is hampering civilian and military administration in Rostov. Putin said the country “is engaged in its heaviest struggle for its future” and called for unity in face of ‘stab in the back’. After Wagner announced control of Rostov, Russian authorities declared a state of ‘counterterrorism’ emergency in Moscow and surrounding areas. The governor of Russia’s Voronezh region said that army was taking necessary measures in face of mutiny. Videos and Photos of Russian soldiers surrendering to Wagner PMC in Voronezh have been circulating on social media.

The conflict is still unfolding
Wagenr chief Prigozhin issued a response to Putin in which he said that Putin is deeply wrong about Wagner mercenaries, ‘they are patriots and they won’t surrender and won’t let Russia be ruled by corruption and paralyzed bureaucracy.’ The Wagner chief had accused Russian military leadership of killing his mercenary forces in a strike on a camp on Friday and video was released showing its aftermath. Security has been beefed up in Moscow and other cities while public activities have been called off too. Russian forces have started to engage Wagner forces in order to regain control over Rostov and Voronezh.
