Russia-Ukraine War: In order to confront the Russian threat, US President Joe Biden offered to provide cutting-edge air defence systems and denounced the missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. According to a statement from the White House, President Biden claimed that the assaults showed the “brutality” of Vladimir Putin’s “illegal war.”
The Russian military reportedly fired 84 cruise missiles at Ukraine on Monday, just two days after a significant explosion destroyed a crucial bridge linking Russia and Crimea. In the largest wave of strikes in months, numerous significant infrastructure facilities were damaged across eight regions.
India expressed its serious worry about the escalation of the violence in Ukraine, especially the targeting of infrastructure and the killing of civilians, in response to the strikes.
We once again stress that no one has any interest in the hostilities escalating. We demand an immediate end to hostilities and a swift return to the road of diplomacy and communication. India is prepared to assist with any de-escalation measures, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.

The major story developments are listed below.
1) The US committed sophisticated air defence systems and condemned “brutal” assaults that attacked non-military targets, such as a university and a playground for kids. The attacks, which left numerous others hurt, resulted in at least 14 fatalities. In response to missile strikes, Germany is also delivering the first of four IRIS-T SLM air defence systems to Ukraine.

2) Hours after the missile strikes, the United Nations voted to reject Russia’s request for a secret vote on whether to condemn Moscow’s intention to annex four partially occupied territories in Ukraine. With 107 votes in favour, the UN General Assembly opted to hold a public vote rather than a secret ballot on a draught resolution denouncing Russia’s “illegal so-called referendum” and the “attempted illegal annexation.” The resolution would probably be put to a vote on Wednesday, October 12.
3) After Russian missiles ploughed into Ukrainian cities, Kiev branded Moscow a “terrorist state” at a pressing UN General Assembly meeting as the West attempted to further isolate Moscow. After the recent explosion that damaged a crucial bridge, Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged even more “serious” retaliation.

4) After the latest strikes, the winter for Ukrainians is bleak. Power and water supplies have been affected as a result of Russian assaults on vital infrastructure. Following the largest attack on the energy infrastructure since the war started in February, authorities in Kyiv ordered residents and businesses to reduce their energy use, and the energy ministry said that electricity exports to the European grid were being suspended.
5) The fatal attacks in the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia were among the bloodiest in recent memory.
6) Following recent victories by Ukrainian forces, Ukraine claimed the string of strikes proved Vladimir Putin was “desperate because of military failures.”
7) Dmitry Medvedev, a former Russian president, cautioned that the retaliatory mass strikes were simply the “initial event.” According to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia employed Shahed-136 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) built in Iran in its “first episode” of large-scale attacks.
8) The Indian embassy in Ukraine has urgently advised all of its residents to abstain from all unnecessary travel to and from the country’s war-torn region. Additionally, the Indian nationals have been instructed to inform the Indian embassy of their whereabouts. India too demanded an end to hostilities and denounced the most recent escalation.
9) The European Union says that Russia’s missile assaults on people in Ukraine “amount to a war crime,” according to a statement made on Monday by Josep Borrell, the bloc’s foreign policy leader.
10) After declaring intentions to deploy joint troops with Moscow, Alexander Lukashenko, a Putin friend in Belarus, claimed that Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine were preparing Belarusian “radicals” for terrorist strikes.
