Russia Ukraine War: Russian forces struck the city of Bakhmut, the months-long focal point of their attempts to takeover the eastern Ukrainian industrial region of Donbas, and the head of Russia’s Wagner mercenary force said Ukrainian troops began to pour in ahead of a “inevitable” counter-offensive, according to news agency Reuters. According to a Facebook post by Ukraine’s general staff, Russian soldiers failed to advance on two villages to the northwest, and at least a dozen places came under Russian fire.
Russian forces had assaulted 324 times in the last 24 hours
According to Vitaliy Kim, the governor of the southern Ukrainian region of Mykolaiv, one person was killed and 15 were injured after Russian missiles struck an apartment block and a private residence in the city of the same name. Meanwhile, Serhiy Cherevatiy, spokesman for Ukraine’s eastern group of forces, told national television that Russian forces had assaulted 324 times in the last 24 hours with artillery and multiple rocket launchers. “The Russians are destroying buildings in Bakhmut to prevent our soldiers from using them as fortifications,” Cherevatiy said, according to reports.

Bakhmut is still the prize sought by Russian troops
The Wagner mercenary squad from Russia has led much of the offensive towards Bakhmut. Its creator, Yevgeny Prigozhin, claimed that its forces controlled 80% of the city this month. Bakhmut is still the prize sought by Russian troops. They have attempted to push their way inside the largely damaged city for nine months and have seized certain important neighbourhoods. Meanwhile, General Christopher Cavoli, Commander of the United States European Command, reiterated that Ukraine’s military would receive the necessary weapons on schedule. As an example, he stated that more than 98% of the combat vehicles promised to Kyiv had already been delivered.
