Russia Ukraine War: Ukraine says 11 people have died in a Russian missile attack on a pizza restaurant in eastern Ukraine. The deal included three teenagers.
It was earlier reported that Russian forces had attacked a restaurant in Kramatorsk. Eleven people were wounded in the attack.
India Today reports that Ukraine’s National Police have arrested a man suspected of guiding the Russians to attack the restaurant.
Russia-Ukraine conflict observers say that Moscow is increasingly attacking eastern Ukraine to consolidate its gains in Donetsk. So far, Kramatorsk has been out of Russian control.
Six weeks ago, Russia had attacked this town which resulted in several deaths.
No response from Ukraine
Last week, PMC Wagner, a mercenary force helping Russians, revolted against President Putin. This revolt lasted 24 hours after Wagner’s chief Yevgeny Prizoghin decided to move to Belarus.
Military observers say that there has been no pushback from Ukraine to benefit from Wagner’s revolt. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy spoke to President Joe Biden on Wagner’s rebellion and discussed the various possible outcomes in Russia.
It is noteworthy that Kyiv launched a counteroffensive last week to displace Russia from eastern Ukraine. Russia has deployed tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus to deter any offensive action that threatens Russian security.
Poland and Lithuania on alert
Belarus, a key Russian ally, shares its borders with Poland and Lithuania. Following Prizhogin’s relocation to Belarus, both countries have stepped up their defences.
Several experts say that PMC Wagner has 50,000 fighters in its ranks.
ABC News quoted Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis as saying Wagner’s revolt “shows how fast detachments from within Russia mobilize and move within its territory.”
Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of Poland’s ruling party, has said his country would strengthen its defences. He said this after reports came in that Wagner has 8,000 soldiers in Belarus.
