Mutiny in Russia: Russian news agency TASS says Moscow has deployed military vehicles around key military installations in the city following a threat from the Wagner Group.
This development comes a day after the Russian government ordered a criminal investigation into the workings of the mercenary group.
The Wagner Group, led by Yevgeny Prizhogin has accused the Russian government of killing the former’s thousands of soldiers in the Ukraine conflict. Moscow has denied these accusations and said they “do not correspond to reality”.

Prizhogin has targeted Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and the Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov “for his fighters’ deaths on the battlefield,” reports India Today.
The head of the private militia head has called on Russians to join him and “punish Moscow’s military leadership.” This is an audacious challenge to President Vladimir Putin,” says India Today.
“Not a coup”
Yevgeny Prizhogin said this is “not a coup, but a march of justice.”
So far, the private militia head hasn’t provided any evidence that Moscow is behind the deaths of his fighters.
The Wagner Group has spearheaded Russia’s attacks on Ukraine.
Officially called PMC Wagner, the Wagner Group is a private military company that has operated in the Middle East, Africa and Ukraine. BBC says this mercenary organization has 50,000 fighters. Mint says the Wagner Group was involved in the capture of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.
Why are Russia and Wagner fighting?
In January 2023, Prizhogin claimed his troops had captured the Ukrainian town of Soledar in the Donetsk region. He also accused Russia of stealing the credit for Soledar’s capture, according to Mint.
The Wagner Group chief has frequently complained that the Defence Minister and the Chief of the General Staff don’t support his forces in terms of logistics. Western observers say that Vladimir Putin doesn’t like these accusations and wants to punish Prizhogin.
