Nepal’s Supreme Court has ordered the release of French serial killer Charles Sobhraj. Sobhraj has been released on the basis of age. He is lodged in Nepali jail since 2003 on charges of murder. The court also ordered his deportation within 15 days of his release. Sobhraj, known in the world of crime as ‘Bikini Killer’ and ‘Serial Killer’, is accused of killing more than 20 people in India, Thailand, Turkey and Iran.
Sobhraj, the son of an Indian father and a Vietnamese mother, was accused of using a fake passport to enter Nepal in 1975 and killing two tourists – American national Connie Jo Boronzich and his Canadian girlfriend Laurent Carrier.
Was arrested in 2003
On 1 September 2003, Sobhraj was seen outside a casino in Nepal after a newspaper published his photograph. After his arrest, the police registered two separate cases of murder against him for the murder of the couple in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur in 1975.
He is serving 21 years of imprisonment in the Central Jail of Kathmandu. He was sentenced to 20 years for the murder of an American citizen and one year for using a fake passport.
Police documents show that Charles began committing petty crimes as a teenager. For the first time in 1963, he was convicted for the crime of theft in Paris. After coming out of jail he told the time between the underworld. Then the incidents of thefts and scams were executed. He was arrested from time to time for different crimes including the failed attempt to rob a jewelry store at Hotel Ashoka in 1973, robbing tourists, drugging and murder. He kept roaming in different countries Kabul, Iran, France, Paris etc. Charles Sobhraj was booked in more than 20 sections of murder, theft, dacoity including the murder of 2 American tourists.
