A popular Muslim cleric in Bangladesh has issued a fatwa against the use of a Facebook emoji. This emoji outlines a laughing face (haha). The name of Maulana, who issued the fatwa against it, has been described as Ahmadullah. It is said that he has more than 3 million followers on Facebook and YouTube.
It has been told that Ahmadullah regularly appears on television shows and discusses only religious issues in this Muslim majority country. On Saturday, he posted a three-minute video of himself and mentioned the habit of teasing people in it. After this, he issued a fatwa against this emoji of Facebook and told how it is haram for Muslims.
Ahmadullah is the new generation Maulana of Bangladesh who is very active on the internet. Each of his videos are very popular and millions of views come on him. He also has millions of followers. Thousands of people reacted to this post of his. Most of the people have commented positively on this. At the same time, there are hundreds of people who made fun of this fatwa by making ‘haha’ emoji.
Ahmadullah said, “Nowadays we use Facebook’s ‘haha’ emoji to tease people. If this ‘haha’ emoji is being used just for fun and the person who posted it also posted this emoji in a joking manner, then it is fine to use. But if your reaction is to tease or taunt someone or comment on social media, then it is completely haram in Islam.”
He further said, “I would request you to avoid this work. Don’t use haha emoji to make fun of someone. If you hurt a Muslim, he will use language you would not have thought of.”
