South China Sea: Typhoon Doksuri wreaked havoc as it made landfall in China, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Prior to reaching Jinjiang district in Fujian Province, China, typhoon unleased deadly landslides and claimed lives in the South China Sea region. The typhoons’ impact was particularly devastating.
Philippines
The Philippines endured the worst of destruction as it battered the northern part of the country. Somewhere around 39 people have lost their lives. Among the losses, many lives were lost when a packed ferry, the M/B Princess Aya, overturned just 46 metres from shore. Authorities informed of 26 deaths and about 40 filipinos that were rescued after the ferry capsized in Laguna de Bay in Rizal. Rescue operations were carried out, yet the exact number of passengers aboard the ferry remains unclear.
Taiwan
Before making its way into China, Typhoon Doksuri passed over Taiwan, causing significant damage in its wake. The typhoon toppled trees and disrupted power supply to the residents of Southern Part of Taiwan. Authorities in Taiwan took necessary precautions, closing businesses and informing residents about the potential dangers of extreme winds.
China
As Typhoon Doksuri made landfall in China, it targeted the Jinjiang district in Fujian Province. The national meteorological center reported the landfall time at 0955 Hours Local time (0725 IST). Wind speed of typhoon Doksuri approached 175 kilometer per hour as it reaches the land. As the Typhoon interacted with land, wind speed decreased a little bit. Even-though there was decrease in the wind speed, it still possessed significant threat to the livelihood. Heavy rainfall is also predicted to persist through-out Friday.
In the aftermath of Typhoon Doksuri’s rampage, regions of South China Sea are faced with the task to rescue, recover and rebuild. Emergency services and disaster response teams are tirelessly in rescuing, aiding the needy. the extents of the destruction of infrastructure and property is being assessed and efforts to restore the nations back to the standard of living.
