A house was split into two by an intense storm in College Park in the US state of Maryland on Tuesday while a man was inside. These storms were part of the thunderstorms raging in the state of Maryland and in Washington D.C. on Tuesday evening.
The storms caused destruction and chaos in the city of College Park, the most notable of which was the house that completely fell apart with someone in it.
A video of the damaged house went viral on social media after local journalist Tom Roussey posted it on Twitter.
Roussey shared pictures of what the house looked like before the storm. The part that is seen leaning at an angle on the ground in the video used to be the second floor.
“This is absolutely unreal, it appears the storm split this home in two in College Park. I talked to two University of Maryland students who live here, they say their roommate was taken to the hospital but they think he’s going to be OK. He was inside and they were not,” Roussey captioned the video.
The two students that were safe and not at the house said that firefighters found their roommate who was stuck inside the house. He was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital.
“The way it was destroyed was so… it’s unbelievable. I can’t imagine what it was like for our roommate who was in there. Also like, what it would have looked like from the outside, just absolutely crazy,” one of the students told the local news.
Meteorologist Bill Kelly stated that the reason the house fell apart was probably that it came in the way of winds that were moving in a straight line with a speed of 70 miles per hour.
One user said, “We get pretty crazy storms in Maryland, especially in the summer but the one that hit last night was vicious. This is not normal.”
Another wrote, “The lightning was insane but couldn’t imagine this much damage.”
