Taiwan: A two-story residential building collapsed near the epicenter, according to a Taiwanese media report. The shaking was felt at the north end of the island in the capital, Taipei.
Following the quake in Taiwan, Japan Meteorological Agency issued an advisory for a tsunami as high as 1 meter (3 feet) reaching several southern Japanese islands.
On Sunday, a powerful earthquake and several aftershocks struck Taiwan, a self-governing island off the east coast of China.

What authorities have to tell regarding the earthquake
According to Taiwanese authorities, the 6.8 quake occurred close to the city of Taitung on the southeast coast at a relatively shallow depth of 7 kilometres (4 miles).

After the Taiwanese earthquake, the Japan Meteorological Agency warned that numerous southern Japanese islands could be reached by a tsunami with a height of up to one metre (three feet).

Multiple aftershocks shook the island
According to the service, the first waves might hit Yonaguni island, Japan’s westernmost island, at around 4:10 p.m. (0710 GMT), followed by three other adjacent islands. Yonaguni is located about 110 kilometres (70 miles) east of Taiwan. The islands are located 1,200 miles or nearly 2,000 kilometres southwest of Tokyo. Residents in such locations were cautioned by weather officials to avoid the coast.
Taitung County in Taiwan has been shaken by multiple aftershocks since being struck by a magnitude-6.4 earthquake on Saturday night.
