Taliban: The Taliban-run government in Afghanistan on Saturday ordered all national and international non-governmental organisations (NGO) to forbid female employees from reporting to work, according to news agency Reuters. This is the latest limitation on women’s rights.

Female employees prohibited from working until further notice
The letter said that the female employees were prohibited from working until further notice because they did not adhere to the administration’s interpretation of the Islamic dress code for women, which was confirmed by Economy Ministry spokeswoman Abdulrahman Habib.
The order’s applicability to UN organisations, which have a sizable presence in Afghanistan, was unclear, according to the newspaper.
It comes just after the Taliban-led government ordered that universities be closed to women, sparking demonstrations and harsh criticism both inside and outside of Afghanistan.
Broad international opposition of the university ban has also been expressed, particularly by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. The G-7 and the United States have both warned that the Taliban will suffer as a result of the policy.

Taliban bans entry of women in universities
The Taliban said that women will not be allowed to enrol at universities nationwide on December 22. Since the Taliban reclaimed control last year, a similar regulation has been implemented on girls in higher secondary institutions, and the discriminating prohibition is an extension of that rule.
Since taking power in August 2021, the Taliban have widely enacted their vision of Islamic law, or Sharia, despite initially pledging a more moderate government that would respect the rights of women and minorities.
In some regions of Afghanistan, both men and women have been protesting the ban on female university students.
According to a BBC report, a group of women marched close to Kabul University while screaming “either everyone or no one” and “one for all.”
Many students, the survey claims, consider education to be a right that ought to apply equally to men and women.
