Taliban regime since it came to power in Kabul has enforced its puritanical form of governance, which has resulted in its targeting education and employment rights of women and young girls. It has resulted in widespread outcry from International Community; however this has no impact on Taliban regime in reversing extremist rulings.
Diktat from Taliban regime
A fresh diktat has been issued by the Taliban that directs hospitals to ensure that male doctors are no longer allowed to treat female patients.
Also adding to the irony of the women in Afghanistan, women doctors in Afghanistan can’t work in hospitals. If there are no female doctors in hospitals, where will Afghan women go?

Outcry from International Community
Overall, the plight of Afghan women is acute and last Monday, the UN Security Council declared that it is “deeply disturbed” by the deterioration of women’s rights in the nation. The Taliban were encouraged to “reopen schools and promptly remove these policies and practises, which represent a continuing deterioration of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms,” according to the statement.
The Taliban’s ban on female aid workers has also been called upon to be “urgently reversed” by the Group of Seven (G-7) nations.
Majority of Afghan women are suffering in silence and want world community to support them.
Taliban Operatives surround Kabul University
The oppressive regime of Taliban has also shut Kabul University’s door for women who want to study medicine. Female students have been stopped from entering the Kabul University from pursuing higher education.
Many women medical professionals are now a depressed lot as they cannot work in clinics and hospitals. Dreams of many Afghan women to study medicine remain crushed under medieval ideology of Taliban regime.
Recently Taliban surrounded the University in the police jeeps to ensure that no women should enter the premises. Barricades were erected by the Taliban , and its operative could be seen denying the women the right to enter the university gates by brandishing their weapons.
A Medical student in Kabul had this to say on the state of women in Afghanistan:
“If women are sick now, they can no longer visit the male doctors and women will die due to lack of medical supervision.
Further she stated that “Women can no longer be the sick ones; the patients in Afghanistan. Let alone doctors”.
