Tragedy Strikes Torkham! Lightning-Caused Landslide Claims two Lives and Traps Truckers

Pakistan

Pakistan: Before daybreak on Tuesday, a significant landslip buried two dozen trucks on a major highway in northwest Pakistan close to the border town of Torkham, according to officials. The number of individuals missing and presumed dead beneath the landslip was unknown. Numerous firefighters and rescuers, according to police officer Ishrat Khan, were working to save truck drivers and other victims of the landslip near the Afghan border. Officials claimed that lightning in the rain caused the landslip.

Injured were being sent to a local hospital

When lightning struck a truck, at least one of them caught fire, according to the rescuers. Khan stated that the injured were being sent to a local hospital. As authorities sent out heavy machinery to Torkham to try to clear the big mudslide, volunteers also joined the hunt for survivors, according to Khan. Eight others were reportedly hurt, according to Bilal Faizi, a spokesman for a government-run rescue service, and two bodies were also taken out.
