Jaishankar Expresses Shock Over Tragic Kuwait Building Fire, Multiple Indians Among 41 Fatalities

At least 41 individuals lost their lives when a destructive fire broke out in a building early on Wednesday morning in Kuwait’s southern Mangaf area. Many Indian nationals, including five from Kerala, are among the dead as a result of the fire that quickly spread across the building and trapped many others inside.

Fire Breaks Out in Mangaf Building

There were about 195 labourers living in the premises when the fire broke out in a lower floor kitchen. Many of these labourers were from Tamil Nadu and Kerala in India. The NBTC group, led by Malayali billionaire KG Abraham, is the owner of the property.

Casualties and Immediate Response

There were 41 fatalities, several of them were Indian nationals, according to various reports. More than fifty people have been admitted to hospitals due to injuries. Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar said, “Deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait city. There are reportedly over 40 deaths and over 50 have been hospitalized. Our Ambassador has gone to the camp. We are awaiting further information. Deepest condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives. Wish early and full recovery to those who have been injured. Our Embassy will render the fullest assistance to all concerned in this regard.”

Indian Ambassador Visits the Site

Adarsh Swaika, the Indian ambassador to Kuwait, quickly went to the Mangaf location to evaluate the situation. Additionally, he visited Al-Adan Hospital, which is treating around thirty injured Indian labourers.

Investigation and Accountability

Now that the fire has been under control, Kuwaiti officials are looking into what started the fire. According to the Kuwait Times, Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousuf Al-Sabah has directed the police to capture the building’s owner, the caretaker, and the proprietor of the business that employs the workers.
