Even as the world leaders are pouring congratulations for President-elect Joe Biden and his running mate Kamla Harris, President Donald Trump is still refusing to concede the election. The Republican has also pressed several legal charges, alleging fraud during voting.
Meanwhile, more than half of America came out on streets to celebrate Joe Biden’s victory after the Democrat managed to garner more than 270 electoral votes, a magic number required to win the US election.
Trump’s refusal has received support from China who has also refused to accept Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States, saying the final result is yet to be determined.
However, Biden had already set the tone of his administration as he announced to launch a new task force on Monday which aims to combat the covid-19 situation across the Unites States.
Incumbent Trump, who remains active on Twitter, had shown no signs of responding to the deteriorating covid-19 situation across the county even as it became the first country to report more than 10 million covid-19 cases with 100,000 daily infections for five days in a row.
“The simple fact is this election is far from over,” Trump said in a statement after Biden’s victory was called by major news outlets Saturday. “I will not rest until the American people have the honest vote count they deserve and that Democracy demands.”
However, Biden’s team has begun the informal work of transition as they prepare to name some early White House appointees soon.
Jared Kushner, his son-in-law and senior adviser, and first lady Melania Trump had advised him to accept loss while his adult sons, Don Jr. and Eric Trump, are pressing him to continue a fight rooted in false claims of fraud.
On the day when election result was announced on various channels, Trump went on to play golf and continued to spread false claims on his favourite go-to platform Twitter.
Meanwhile, Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence has also been silent over the result while several of Trump’s supporters came out on streets to held protests against Biden’s win.
