Twitter: “Upset” with Musk’s management, this nation’s ruling party leaves the platform

Twitter: Due to worries that Twitter was being used to promote false information and hate speech, Slovenia’s ruling Freedom Movement party (GS) said on Saturday that it has chosen to stop using the social media platform. In a statement, GS made reference to the recent acquisition of Twitter by billionaire Elon Musk. “Considering the behaviour and announcements by Twitter’s new owner and management, we can expect they will further open its doors to indecent communication and hate speech,” the statement read.

About the ruiling party

The party of Liberal Prime Minister Robert Golob won the legislative elections in April on the promise of restoring civility to politics and bolstering the rule of law, both of which critics claim former Conservative Prime Minister Janez Jansa damaged.

Jansa, a frequent Twitter user with more than 100,000 followers in a nation of two million, attacked critics and the media on the social networking site, while Golob declared he would not use it “to avoid the temptation of rapid fingers.”

Technological issues had prevented it from using Twitter for three weeks

The GS, which is in control of 41 of the 90 seats in parliament, claimed that technological issues had prevented it from using Twitter for three weeks, but over time it had come to the conclusion that it was unnecessary for communicating effectively with the public.
The GS added that it does not want to be a part of it, saying that “At the same time, the platform has been abused by members and supporters of some political parties to polarise society, spread fake news, manipulate, discredit, offend or even to use hate speech.”
