Putting an end to controversy over the certification of an anti-Covid vaccine, Britain on Thursday announced that Indians who have taken both doses of Covidshield will no longer need to live in isolation upon their arrival in the UK from October 11.
UK High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis said, “From October 11, there will be no need to self-quarantine for Indian travelers going to the UK who have received both doses of Covishield or any other UK-approved vaccine. Now it will be easier to go to the UK. This is a good news for Indian who wants to travel to UK. Thanks to the Government of India for the close cooperation during the last month.
A spokesman for the British High Commission said Britain has changed its international travel rules and now India’s vaccination certification will be recognized from October 11.

At the same time, in its latest travel guidelines, Britain said that the “red list” will be limited to seven countries and proof of vaccination of 37 new countries and territories, including India, will be recognized from 4 am on Monday.
According to the new guidelines, the British government has expanded the vaccination arrival system to 37 countries and territories around the world, including India, South Africa and Turkey.
The announcement came hours after India had earlier said it was hopeful of finding a solution to the vaccine certification controversy.
It is noteworthy that according to the new UK rules that came into effect on October 4, Indian travelers who had received both doses of the Covidshield vaccine were made mandatory to stay in isolation for 10 days.
Subsequently, India took a retaliatory move by making it mandatory for British nationals arriving in India from the UK to remain in isolation for 10 days, even if they had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
