Rishi Sunak: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his family are in trouble over walking their dog in central London’s Hyde Park. Signs in the park clearly state that all dogs must be kept on leads to avoid worrying the wildlife. A video clip shows Sunak walking Nova, a Labrador, in the park without the lead.
Sunak was earlier in trouble with the police for breaking the lockdown law and then for not wearing the seatbelt while driving.
A clip posted on TikTok shows Nova roaming freely in Hyde Park. This drew a rebuke from the Metropolitan Police.
Reminded of rules
“An officer, who was present at the time, spoke to a woman and reminded her of the rules,” a police statement said Tuesday, apparently referring to Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty.
“The dog was put back on the lead,” it said.
Rishi Sunak’s spokesman declined to comment.
Earlier this week there were reports that the uber-wealthy Rishi Sunak had the electricity network upgraded at his Yorkshire mansion to power his heated swimming pool. Downing Street refused to comment on the report.
The prime minister has had several awkward encounters with the public, as he battles to counter perceptions that he is too rich to connect with voters amid a cost-of-living crisis in Britain.
And though Rishi Sunak projects a more wholesome image than predecessor Boris Johnson, he has drawn also untoward attention from the police.
Broke Covid rules
He was fined while serving as Boris Johnson’s finance minister for attending a party at Downing Street in June 2020 that violated the government’s Covid rules on social distancing.
Boris Johnson became the first UK premier to be fined by police, for the same party.
In January Rishi was was penalised for not wearing a seatbelt in a moving car. Rishi Sunak apologised for an “error of judgement”.
