UK: The UK’s next prime minister, Rishi Sunak, an Indian-origin MP, has pledged to put stability and unity first. The Conservative party leader said it is the greatest honour of his life to give back to a country he owes so much in his first speech following the election results. Sunak, who is 42, is the UK’s youngest and first Hindu.

“UK is a great country, but there is no doubt we face a serious economic problem” Sunak
Sunak spoke to the public on Monday from the Conservative Party’s offices close to Parliament in London. “The UK is a great country, but there is no doubt we face a serious economic problem,” Sunak said.
“In order to overcome the challenges we confront and create a better, more prosperous future for our children and grandkids. We now need stability and unity, and I will make it my utmost effort to bring our party and our country together,” he continued.
Additionally, Rishi Sunak promised to serve the British people with honesty and humility and to put out consistent effort. After Penny Mordaunt withdrew from the contest, it was clear who the future prime minister will be. More than half of the 357 Tory MPs supported the leader of Indian descent.

Rishi Sunak’s previous election experience
Sunak finished second in the previous leadership contest as well, receiving the most support from MPs, but Liz Truss prevailed after the vote was cast by Tory members. The 1922 Committee accelerated the Tory leadership election this time because of the urgency of the economic crisis when she abruptly departed last week.
Truss’ plans were famously criticised by Sunak as “fairy-tale economics,” and his supporters frequently emphasised how he had made the proper predictions and was thus the best choice to restore economic credibility.
