UK Prime Minister: Boris Johnson, the former prime minister, has returned to the UK from his Caribbean vacation, and Rishi Sunak, the former finance minister, is currently atop the betting odds to succeed Liz Truss as the next leader of the Conservative Party and prime minister of the UK. However, Penny Mordaunt, the third candidate in the race and party leader in the House of Commons, has an advantage in one respect: she has already released a video that she describes as “The Real Me.”
With the slogan “#PM4PM,” which is a play on her initials, she posted the campaign video on her social media accounts.
It depicts the former defence minister opening a wicket gate and moving toward activities that are regarded as essential to British culture, such as watching football, playing pool at the local bar, and pouring pints of beer.
She describes herself as being from Portsmouth, “a military city with a proud heritage,” and that she is an ordinary person.

She claims, “I have worked in factories and pubs, and I am aware of the cost of living.”
Cost of living is the primary factor behind Liz Truss’s resignation earlier this week, which made her the UK PM with the shortest tenure. She was unable to pass policies to rein in growing prices.
In the two-minute clip, former reality TV star Penny Mordaunt, 49, briefly describes her journey from a middle-class neighbourhood to “having a place at the table.”

She makes an indirect reference to the fact that both of her competitors are more wealthy in the video: “There are a lot of people who say they know me and you. But consider this: Do they comprehend the way you live?”
Following Liz Truss’ departure from the Conservative Party this week due to her failure to advance policies to curb price increases, Boris Johnson, who was expelled after a string of scandals just about two months ago, has yet to formally announce his candidacy for the party’s leadership.
Rishi Sunak, the former finance minister who lost to Liz Truss in the most recent leadership battle, has received the more than 100 MP nominations needed to hold a contest. Ben Wallace and Jeremy Hunt were the other two to withdraw.
According to reports, Mr. Johnson asked Mr. Sunak to back down because he believes that only he can “rescue the party” in the 2024 elections.
In the prior leadership election, Penny Mordaunt finished third, behind Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak. Liz Truss was then supported by her. Penny Mordaunt recently stated in a newspaper piece that “Britain needs stability, not a soap opera” as Liz Truss’s popularity began to fade.

She is referred to by the BBC as “the Brexiteer who is liked by the grassroots.” In a 2016 referendum, she was a vocal supporter of Britain leaving the European Union.
On Monday, the party’s MPs will cast their votes; if no one withdraws, two candidates will be put before the party’s general membership. The verdict is expected on Friday, October 28.
Party leader in the Commons, Penny Mordaunt, declared at the beginning of her campaign, “I’ve been buoyed by support from colleagues who want a fresh start, an unified party, and leadership in the national interest.”
Keir Starmer, the leader of the opposition Labour Party, attacked the Conservative Party and demanded a general election. “The people of Britain deserve so much better than this perpetual state of instability. A general election is now required “said he.
