Rishi Sunak under pressure from his own party members
After coping with rising energy costs and a cost-of-living crisis during his first six weeks in office, Rishi Sunak is now under pressure from members of his own party to cut taxes.
The government has decided to tax the British people at levels not seen since the conclusion of World War II, according to 40 Conservative party MPs who signed a letter to Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt on Sunday.
The letter read, “We need to be able to reassure our constituents, who are worried about the cost-of-living crisis, that every penny of taxpayers’ money spent on their behalf provides value for money and is not wasted.”
Reuters reported that the group of 40 MPs, known as “Conservative Way Forward,” announced it will release a report on Monday listing seven billion pounds of “waste” that might be eliminated, allowing the government to lower taxes or increase spending on front-line services.

What does the group claim?
The group, which had the backing of former interior minister Priti Patel, claimed that parliamentarians’ choice of Rishi Sunak, made just weeks after members had voted for Truss, finally put an end to any remaining sense of democratic process inside the Conservative Party.
In terms of policy, Sunak has already reversed course on a number of occasions. Commitments on fracking, wind farms, and housing objectives were dropped in the face of Tory opposition, much like Liz Truss did with her tax cuts.
“I will place economic stability and confidence at the heart of this government’s agenda. This will mean difficult decisions to come.” It will be interesting to observe how the British prime minister of Indian descent responds to the recent uprising.
