US High School Shooting: A shooter who broke into a high school in St. Louis on Monday morning killed a mother and a teenage girl and wounded six others before being shot and killed by police.
When did the incident took place
Students at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School were compelled to barricade doors, hide in classroom corners, leap from windows, and flee the building in order to find safety when a shooting occurred shortly after 9 a.m. One terrified young woman claimed she was face to face with the shooter when his rifle allegedly jammed, allowing her to escape.
Police Commissioner Michael Sack indicated during a press conference that the shooter was around 20 years old but he would not name him or his victims. He opted not to mention whether the murdered woman was a teacher.
Seven security officers were stationed inside the secured facility at that time, according to St. Louis Schools Superintendent Kelvin Adams, each at a different entrance point. One of the guards saw the man attempting to enter through a closed door but failing. According to Sack, the guard informed the school’s administration and saw to it that police were called.
The security officer’s quick action and the fact that the door did make the suspect hesitate gave Sack and him some breathing room.
Sack declined to disclose how the suspect ultimately entered the building while carrying what he characterised as a long gun.
Officers worked to evacuate the kids from the brick, three-story structure before the gunman was killed when they “went to that firing, located that shooter, and engaged that shooter in an exchange of gunfire” killing him, Sack told.
According to Sack, some of the six hospitalized patients had gunshot wounds, while others had been hit by shrapnel. He said nothing about their health situations.

Victims recall the horror
Taniya Gholston, 16, a student, said the St. Louis Post-Dispatch she was in a room when the shooter entered the school.
Gholston claimed, “All I heard was two shots, then he entered with a rifle.” “I tried to run, but I was unable to do so. Eye contact occurred between me and him, but I was able to avoid it because his rifle jammed. But we noticed blood on the ground.
Nylah Jones, a ninth-grader, told the Post-Dispatch that the shooter opened firing into the math class while she was in it. She claimed that when kids gathered in a corner of the room, the gunman was unable to enter and began to pound on the door.
When the school was locked down, Janay Douglas’ 15-year-old daughter became caught in a hallway. Douglas claimed that her daughter called her to let her know that she had heard gunfire.
“She and her companions immediately took off running when one of her friends broke through the door and was shot in the hand. The phone went dead,” Douglas reported. I had already left.
Tishaura Jones, the mayor of St. Louis, was shaken by the incident.
Jones added during the news conference that “our children shouldn’t have to go through this. In the event that something happens, they shouldn’t have to go through active shooter drills. And, regrettably, that occurred today.
A magnet school with roughly 400 students, Central Visual and Performing Arts High School focuses on visual, musical, and performing arts. The educational programme at the school is “designed to create a nurturing environment where students receive a quality academic and artistic education that prepares them to compete successfully at the post-secondary level or perform competently in the world of work,” according to the district website.
