Barack Obama: An armed Man identified as Taylor Taranto has been arrested for crimes related to January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol was arrested in Washington. As per law enforcement he was carrying explosive materials and weapons and was arrested from the neighborhood of former US President Barack Obama.
The accused was spotted by law enforcement and was chased down by US Secret Service. According to officials Taranto has charges from Capitol Hill insurrection and has made several social media threats against a public figure. During his arrest Taranto possessed weapons and materials to create an explosive device. Many details pertaining to the arrest were not made public by the US authorities.
Charges against Taranto
Metropolitan Police has said that the arrest of Taranto was made on the charges of being a fugitive from justice. The charges of January 6 insurrection on Taranto have still not been detailed by the authorities. It has still not be found whether Obamas were at their residence during the arrest. The explosive teams searched Taranto’s van following his arrest and stated there were no threats to the public.
Capitol Hill insurrection
On January 6 2021 supporters of then-President Donald Trump smashed windows of the Capitol and confronted police authorities in an effort overturn the outcome of US 2020 Presidential elections. Since the riot more than 1,000 people have been charged with federal crimes with 600 of them pleading guilty. 550 people have been sentenced to prison for a period ranging from 6 days to 18 year. Approximately 100 charges were confirmed after conviction from trials and juries.
