Joe Biden, the US president, stated on Monday (local time) that he intends to run for president in 2024 but has not yet been ready to make the announcement.
During the White House Easter Egg Roll, Biden told NBC’s “Today” show, “I plan on running, but we’re not ready to announce it yet.”
The oldest US president in history is Joe Biden. At the end of his second term, if he is elected again, he would be 86 years old.
Although he hasn’t made a formal announcement, Biden has stated that he plans to run as the Democratic candidate in 2024. According to NBC News, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris declared they will run together.
The 80-year-old Biden has constantly declared his intention to seek re-election. Last year, when he and Sharpton posed for pictures in the Roosevelt Room, Biden declared, “I’m going to do it again.
According to NBC News, which cited a number of anonymous sources, senior White House officials are expected to make a final decision regarding the start of Biden’s re-election campaign.
“The decision part is over, but he resents the pressure to have to announce what he’s already decided,” source familiar with the matter told NBC.
The lack of an important Democratic challenger, the fact that former President Donald Trump, who is seeking the GOP nomination, is under investigation and taking up a lot of political space, and the fact that a major fight with congressional Republicans over spending are all factors in the decision-making process.
The former president entered a not guilty plea last week in a Manhattan court on the fabrication of company records.
The two contenders who have officially entered the race for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024 are anti-vaccine activist Robert Kennedy Jr. and best-selling self-help author Marianne Williamson.
But, it doesn’t appear like any notable Democratic officeholders are thinking about challenging the incumbent.
Even before Biden has formally confirmed his desire to run for re-election, Democratic power brokers have made it clear that they are all behind him despite his lacklustre approval numbers, according to NBC News.
Prior to the expected start of his re-election campaign, Biden made statements on a number of contentious issues, including crime, immigration law, and the environment, in which he parted ways with progressives.
Progressives, moderates, leadership, and rank-and-file Democrats from throughout the party, however, have stated they want to support Biden going into 2024.
