The United States President Joe Biden is adamant in curbing coronavirus infection and keeping in line with the same he will pledg a monetary help of $4 bn to the Covax global covid-19 vaccination program during his virtual meet with other G7 leaders on Friday.
In the first phase, $2 bn will be released by the end of this month, while the rest amount will be coming over the next two year, White House official told AFP.
Covax is a global project under which 20 per cent of the vaccines against coronavirus will be distributed among the most vulnerable ones in every country. The project particularly aims to elevate vaccination process in poor economy country who haven’t been able to secure any vaccine doses.
“The United States is really excited to be making our first contribution to COVAX,” said the official. “We do think it is vital to take a role in beating the pandemic globally.”
He then added even as the country’s first priority is to inoculate all the the Americans, it would only add to the benefit of the country if the infection around the world is curbed.
” Assistance to other countries decreases the risk to everyone in the world, including Americans, and also decreases the risk of variants,” the official said.
As of now, the focus is on contributing funds for the new vaccines but once the country secures enough doses, it’s focus will be to arrange sufficient vaccine doses for other countries, he added.
G7 submit that is scheduled to be held on Friday will see the seven leaders discussing international coordination on ending the deadly and disruptive pandemic.
