In next two weeks the United States will announce how it will sell and distribute 80 million COVID-19 vaccine doses it has pledged globally, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday.
During a joint news conference with Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado, Blinken said the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden will focus on equitable distribution of the immunizations and not tie political strings to the process.
“Sometime in the next week to two weeks – we will be announcing the process by which we will distribute those vaccines, what the criteria are, how we will do it,” Blinken said during his first trip as secretary of state to Latin America, which is fighting to contain COVID-19.
“We will distribute vaccines without political requirements of those receiving them.”
The Biden administration has been under pressure to share vaccines to help curb worsening outbreaks from India to Brazil, where health experts fear new, more contagious coronavirus variants could undermine the effectiveness of available shots.
Earlier announced to donate 6 crore doses
Earlier, President Joe Biden had said that the US would donate 20 million vaccine doses to Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson in June. Even before this, America had promised to donate 60 million doses of the vaccine to the needy countries of the world.
India talked to America on increasing the supply of vaccine
Let us inform that this announcement has been made from the US side immediately after the visit of External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar to America. On May 29, S Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In the meeting, talks were also held on increasing the supply of corona virus epidemic and corona vaccine.
