MRI Machine’s Magnetic Pull Leads to Fatal Consequences
Accompanying his mother for a medical appointment, Novaes had his licensed firearm concealed under his waistband. However, the magnetic forces emanating from the MRI machine dislodged the weapon, resulting in a fatal accident. The powerful pull was so intense that it caused severe injuries, ultimately leading to Novaes’ demise.
Hospital’s Official Statement and Aftermath
Following the incident, Laboratorio Cura hospital issued an official statement emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety protocols, including the removal of metallic objects before entering the examination room. The hospital clarified that Novaes failed to disclose the presence of the firearm, which he had brought into the room voluntarily.
Despite receiving medical treatment at Sao Luiz Morumbi Hospital, Novaes succumbed to his injuries on February 6, prompting condolences from the legal community and beyond. The Order of Attorneys of Brazil in Cotia expressed profound sorrow at the loss of their esteemed colleague and extended sympathy to Novaes family.

This tragic event echoes a similar incident in 2018 when a 32-year-old Indian man lost his life due to an MRI accident involving a metal oxygen tank. These incidents underscore the importance of strict adherence to safety guidelines and heightened awareness regarding the potential dangers posed by MRI machines.
