Viral Video: Following a mob attack in Lahore, Pakistan, a woman was placed into police arrest for wearing clothing with Arabic patterns on it that some believed to be Quranic verses. A local police officer is heard in recordings that are currently going viral stating that the woman and her husband were out shopping when the mob demanded that she remove the top she was wearing.
Punjab Police Commends Officer’s Response
The Punjab Police released a video of the incident, praising the officer who was on the scene and attempted to defuse the tension. The cop was identified as ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi. She was observed escorting the woman out of sight of the throng.
Woman’s Tearful Moment Captivates Social Media
Social media users extensively circulated a video of the woman sitting in what looked to be a restaurant with her hands on her face while a throng fought outside. She is surrounded by several police officers. As this was going on, a number of X users defended the woman, arguing that the clothing she was wearing was only a collection of Arabic words taken from a Quran.
Woman Expresses Regret, Denies Intention to Offend
The woman apologised after being placed under arrest and said she didn’t mean to enrage anyone. When the woman apologised, a Muslim priest who was there said that she had vowed never to wear the clothing again.
