Viral Video: After the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted last week, the terrorist organisation Hamas on Monday published the first video of an Israeli hostage held in the Gaza Strip, according to the Jerusalem Post. In the video posted by Hamas on Telegram, the hostage, who has a fractured arm, is shown receiving medical attention.
Mia Shem, Israeli Hostage in Gaza, Speaks Out
The hostage assures the camera that she is Mia Shem, age 21, of Shoham, and that she is being taken care of. She claims that after breaking her arm, she received surgery in Gaza and that she is eager to return home. “Hi, I’m Mia Shem, 21 years old from Shoham. Currently, I’m in Gaza. I returned early Saturday morning from Sderot; I was at a party. I was seriously injured in my hand. I underwent surgery on my hand at the hospital (in Gaza) for 3 hours. They are taking care of me, giving me medicine, everything is fine,” the Jerusalem Post quoted her as saying in her native language in the video.
Hostage Pleads for Return Home as Hamas Releases First Video
She says, “I only ask to bring me home to my parents and go home as soon as possible. Get me out of here as soon as possible. Please.” The attack on October 7 by Hamas gunmen resulted in at least 199 Israelis and foreigners being captured, which was the most casualties in a single day in Israel’s 75-year history. Hamas sought to present itself as a humane organisation in a different video by referring to the hostages who are not Israeli citizens as “guests” who will be freed “when circumstances allow.” This portrayal was denied by the Israeli military, which claimed that Hamas was to blame for the kidnapping and death of innocent civilians, including infants, women, children, and the elderly.
