The Taliban may be claiming to have taken control of Panjshir, the last province occupied by the opponents, but the war is yet to come. There are reports of gunshots being heard continuously in the Panjshir Valley. Unknown military strikes are being carried out targeting Taliban positions. The Northern Alliance, a Taliban insurgent group, has claimed that the war is still on. The leaders leading the war said that we will not give up as long as our breath continues. Northern Alliance fighters are challenging the Taliban.
Former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh, who heads the Northern Alliance, and Kar Ahmed Masood, son of anti-Taliban Ahmad Shah Masood, had said the Northern Alliance would fight till the last drop of blood. He also claimed that the fighters of Panjshir had shot down a Pakistani fighter plane. Earlier there were reports that Taliban fighters in Panjshir were attacked by Pakistani jets, in which a large number of Northern Alliance soldiers were reported to be killed.
Earlier on Monday, Taliban fighters claimed to have captured eight districts of Panjshir. A large number of Taliban fighters entered Panjshir and claimed to have eliminated the insurgent group, and the Taliban had raised their flag outside the governor’s office.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said Ahmed Masood, who heads the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRFA), and former Vice President Amrullah Saleh have fled to neighboring Tajikistan. Masood has said in his Twitter message that he is safe, but did not give any other details. Masood said that the Taliban’s claim of victory is false and our war is on. He appealed to the people to revolt against the Taliban throughout Afghanistan.
The media report said that the Taliban got a lot of help from Pakistan’s Air Force and drones in controlling Panjshir. Taliban fighters captured eight districts of Panjshir overnight. It is noteworthy that on Saturday itself, ISI Chief Faiz Hameed reached Kabul and got involved in the operation with the Taliban. Panjshir was finally captured by the Taliban after heavy bombing on Sunday. Former Vice President Saleh is said to have fled to Tajikistan after the airstrike.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said that the last fort of opposition to the Taliban in Afghanistan has also been conquered. The country has finally come out of the vortex of war. Our people will get a happy life of peace and freedom. Mujahid assured the people of Panjshir that they would not be discriminated against.
