Md Anwarul Azim: In New Town, Kolkata, India, the lifeless body of Md. Anwarul Azim (Anar), a member of parliament representing Jhenaidah-4 constituency and the president of Kaliganj upazila Awami League, has been discovered.
Travel to Kolkata for Medical Treatment
Reports in the media state that on May 11, he traveled to Kolkata for medical treatment. The reason for his demise is still a mystery. Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim was slain on May 13 in a home in Newtown, Kolkata, according to the Kolkata Police. According to the nation’s media, this incident resulted in the arrest of two persons. Later, on Wednesday, May 22, in the early hours, his body was found at Sanjeeva Garden in Kolkata’s Newtown neighbourhood.
Departure from Friend’s Home for Doctor’s Appointment
MP Anwarul Azim had earlier on May 12 traveled from Bangladesh to Kolkata for medical treatment. He stayed in North Baranagar at a friend’s house in Calcutta. On May 13, he then left his friend’s home to go to the doctor.
He had sent his friend a WhatsApp message from Delhi that day at midday to let him know where he was. In a WhatsApp message, he further requested that you not call him again at that time. If need be, he will get in touch with himself.
Vacation Communication with Family and Party Members
Abdur Rauf, Anar’s personal assistant, earlier told the media that the MP had spent the first two days of his vacation communicating with his family and fellow party members. But since Tuesday, May 14, we haven’t been able to get in touch with him at all. He can’t be reached on WhatsApp either. In 2014, 2018, and 2024, Md. Anwarul Azim Anar was chosen as the MP for Jhenaidah-4.
Family’s Contact with Police
Once they could not be located, the Bangladeshi family members got in touch with the police. The daughter of MP Anwarul Azim had already protested to DB. Meanwhile, MP Anwarul Azim’s last known mobile location was discovered in Bihar, per Kolkata Police officials. On May 14, he turned off his phone. Messages from his phone to family members indicated that he had gone for New Delhi, according to police, even though he had been missing for the previous eight days.
Tragic Incident in Newtown
Awami League sources said that the MP is well-known in Kolkata and that he frequently travels to India for medical care. Here are a few of his acquaintances as well. According to a consulate officer, the MP traveled to a friend’s home in Baranagar on May 12 after crossing into West Bengal at the Darshana border.
He departed his friend’s place two days later, on May 14, promising to attempt to return that day or the next day. Nevertheless, Gopal Biswas reported Azim missing to the Kolkata police after he failed to return as promised.
On the other side, Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim went to a house in Newtown, Kolkata, on May 13, and was murdered there, according to a report published on West Bengal’s internet portal Kolkata Twenty Four.
